2020.01.24 17:45 klystron "But beware of what you wish for. If we had an Imperial revolution, where would it end?" Express and Star, Midlands, UK

From the Express and Star, a regional British paper covering the Midlands, columnist Peter Rhodes writes:
With just a week to go to Brexit, there has been some talk of Britain moving away from the metric system and embracing once again the old Imperial measures. Truth is, we never really left it. We may pay lip service to metres, Celsius and tonnes but we still pop down the pub for a pint and, when a baby is born, we expect to be told its weight in lbs and ozs, not kilograms.
But beware of what you wish for. If we had an Imperial revolution, where would it end? Being of a certain age, I felt at home on trips to the United States where gallons, pints and Fahrenheit still apply. Then I came across a roadside shop in Texas selling fruit by the bushel, whatever that is. And what of furlongs, chains, poles and perches? We may pretend to get all nostalgic for Imperial measurements but the truth is we never understood half of them. (Don't forget, there are 22 poles to a firkin and 1,760 acres in a perch).
And guineas? What were they all about?

2019.10.12 12:22 WolvoNeil Wolves / General Premier League Content Creators

Hi Wolves fans
Since its the international break, and we have no football to look forward to (aside from dismal England performances..) I thought i'd list out some of my favourite content creators who cover Wolves, along with some who cover the Premier League more generally. This might be helpful for international fans or maybe some other fans who aren't so active on social media to help you get your Wolves fix!
I'll break them down into the categories of - podcasts, youtubers, twitter and then traditional media, but of course many of these content creators are active on multiple platforms, so if you like a particular youtuber it might be worth following them on twitter and visa-versa.
Wolves Podcasts:
Wolves Youtubers:
General Premier League Youtubers:
Wolves Twitter Creators:
I'll keep this list simple, but basically the below list includes most of the twitter accounts i follow to get a good range of fan opinion, live score updates, breaking news, rumours and other traditional media:
Traditional Media:
If you have any others Wolves content you'd suggest who i might not be aware of let me know.

Leicester City vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Date: 18th of August 2018 3:00 GMT
Venue: King Power Stadium
Referee": Mike Dean
Match facts
  • Jamie Vardy was on the bench for Leicester's opener at Manchester United owing to a late return after the World Cup, but boss Claude Puel says the England striker has a 'good chance' of starting against Wolves.
  • Shinji Okazaki and Matty James are both sidelined and new £19m defender Caglar Soyuncu, who moved from Freiburg before the transfer deadline, isn't yet ready to feature despite being handed a work permit yesterday.
  • Wolves are missing Ivan Cavaleiro, who has a back problem and has been told to rest.
  • New £30m pair Adama Traore and Leander Dendoncker have both trained this week and Nuno must decide if the pair are fit enough to be involved.
  • The Portuguese head coach could name the same XI that drew 2-2 with Everton. Romain Saiss would be the likely beneficiary should he decide to tighten things up after two poor goals were conceded against the Toffees.

2017.11.25 21:17 welshboy2142 Where to follow Wolves (Updated)

So it's been over two years since I originally made the old thread, I thought I'd update this.
Twitter
  • Wolves: The official Wolves Twitter page is where all of the latest information from the club is usually posted first. During matches they also do live updates of the match so it's also one of the best places to get match updates if you're not at the game or if it isn't televised. They also do some competitions on there to give away signed shirts and things like that so it's usually worth keeping an eye on there.
  • Wolves Academy: The Wolves Academy account is used for any news or match updated from the Under-18s or Under 23s team.
  • Tim Speirs: Tim Speirs is the Wolves correspondant for the Express & Star. He posts transfer news and pretty much anything to do with Wolves on his twitter. He also does live tweeting of matches when it's at the game. He also does a Podcast with Nathan Judah.
  • Nathan Judah: Nathan Judah is the digital sports editor from the Express in Star. He's Tim Speirs sidekick when it comes to reporting for Wolves, hosting the E&S podcast and also running the E&S matchday blog.
  • Wolves FC News (Birmingham Mail: This account is used by the Birmingham Mail to post and news that they've posted about Wolves.
  • Wolves Fancast: The Wolves Fancast is a fan run podcast which also runs a blog. They're the reason that Luke Skywalker supports Wolves so they're worth a follow.
  • Toaster Wolves: Toaster Wolves is a fan group which made the famous banners over the years.
  • Wolves_Academy/Compton Stars - This account used to be Compton Stars before being changed to Wolves_Academy, Wolves then made their own academy account so this is still a place you can go to for any info on the academy teams.
  • Wolves Players - A list of players twitters by the club. (Not sure how up to date it is)
Websites/Blogs
  • Wolves Official Website: News from the club, tickets, fixtures etc.
  • Wolvesblog: Wolvesblog has been running for years now and they post great opinion pieces on Wolves. They do both match prviews and reviews for every game so it's worth looking on there often.
  • NewsNow - Wolves: NewsNow is a website that collaborates anything to do with Wolves on the internet and puts it all in one place which is useful.
  • Express & Star: In terms of newspapers they cover the most on everything to do with Wolves.
  • Birmingham Mail - Wolves: The Wolves section of the Birmingham Mail is actually pretty good. They do a lot more opinion pieces than the E&S do.
  • Wolves Fancast: The WolvesFancast website is a great place for opinion pieces on Wolves. Most importantly though they have a podcast which is released weekly on their Soundcloud.
  • Cry Wolf: Cry Wolf is a bog written by Adam Thompson, he writes fantastic opinion pieces on Wolves and other footballing matters.
  • Southbank Resistance: In comparison to the other blogs posted in this post, Southbank Resistance is a bit different. It's written by Michael Petalengro and he gives a more personal view of what it is like being a Wolves Fans and going to games.
Fan Forums
  • MolineuxMix: The biggest and most popular fan forum for Wolves. Be warned, Molineuxmix can be one of the most negative places on the internet in regards to Wolves (if we lose).
  • Wolvesforum
Youtube
  • Official Wolves Youtube - The Wolves youtube is where all of the highlights are posted along with any interviews.
  • Wolves Babble: Wolves Babble uploads fantastic videos and highlights of Wolves, usually highlights from seasons and specific players. I particularly like his videos because of his inclusion of Mikey Burrows commentary.
Podcasts
  • Wolves Fancast: The original Wolves podcast, full of banter and wrestling quips, the fancast is a brilliant podcast to listen to get the fans opinions of the goings on at Wolves.
  • Express & Star Wolves Podcast: The Express & Star Wolves Podcast is ran by E&S correspondents Nathan Judah, Tim Speirs and Luke Hatfield. They give the lowdown on Wolves from the perspective of the local press. The podcast is full of fantastic segments (and terrible ones) including quizes, questions and the abuse that they receive on Twitter.

Team News:
Aston Villa:
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is expected to make his league debut having made his bow in the FA Cup defeat at Tottenham.
Defenders Micah Richards and Ritchie De Laet are injured, while forwards Jordan Ayew and Jonathan Kodjia are at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Midfielder Aaron Tshibola may keep his place after a strong display at Spurs.
🐺🔶 Wolves:
Boss Paul Lambert hopes winger Ivan Cavaleiro will be fit after missing the FA Cup game at Stoke with a knee problem.
Prince Oniangue has been struggling with illness while fellow midfielder Romain Saiss is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco.
Ola John has returned to training but his loan deal is expected to be cut short, with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Joao Teixeria, Jed Wallace and Paul Gladon also surplus to requirements.
Streams, Broadcast Schedules & Other Links:
Paul Lambert has a vengeance and we will suffer because of it. Our first proper game without Ayew and Kodjia so it will be interesting to see how we do. Despite the predicted lineup I'd be surprised to see Agbonlahor up top, surely it'll be McCormack? Hope Johnstone will have a good game. Despite being in 17th, Wolves haven't been doing too badly lately and I expect they'll give us a game. Usually I'd predict a 2-1 or 1-0 win to us, but no Kodjia makes me doubt our goalscoring abilities.
RIP Graham Taylor, manager of both Aston Villa and Wolves.
FAQ: YES there will be streams of this match as it is being broadcast live!!!!! Check /soccerstreams right before or during the game to find a stream!!
